i went to the park

to ease my head,

of fresh air

and cigarettes;

i pass the bench

where we sat,

and talked,

and kissed.

the bench is empty.

i almost wept,

but kept on walking.

a butterfly dances

in the dried corpse

of wildflowers;

the hedgehog wanders

on the path

i’m hesitant to walk.

sun beaming

in a cloudless sky;

the storm

will be upon us soon

and i will be back

to my room

drinking alone,

trying to forget

what was never

mine to hold.
